More News on the Pirates' Brock Holt
The Pittsburgh Pirates' 2B Brock Holt (pictured on the previous page in section #16610 - 2nd from the left) who made his MLB debut on Sept 1, got enough plate appearences to qualify for the Eastern League (AA) batting title, before moving on to a brief stint with Indianapolis (AAA) and now the Pirates.
Holt's league-leading .322 prevented Reading (Phillies affiliate) 1B/OF Darin Ruf from winning the Eastern League's Triple Crown. Ruf led the league in home runs (38) and RBI (104), but finished as runner-up to Holt for the batting title with a .317 batting average.
Ruf's outstanding year helped Reading to advance to the league playoffs as they clinched the final Wild Card spot on the final game of the season (today,9/3). The Phillies may promote Ruf directly from AA to the majors once Reading's fate in the E.L. PLAYOFFS has been decided.
