Best Defenders Announced by NL
Friday, October 17th, 1930

Making the play is the mark of great defenders. Spearing a liner, diving in the hole or crashing headlong into the wall makes no difference to these awe-inspiring fielders. Magicians they sometimes appear to be, showing up out of nowhere to rob a batter of a hit and to turn a hit into an out. Pitchers love 'em and batters curse 'em. These defensive wizards will collect their 1930 National League Glove Wizard Awards tonight:

Pitcher: Earl Whitehill (Chicago Cubs)
Catcher: Charlie Berry (Chicago Cubs)
First Baseman: Andy High (Philadelphia Phillies)
Second Baseman: Max Bishop (Cincinnati Reds)
Third Baseman: Pinky Whitney (Philadelphia Phillies)
Shortstop: Charlie Gelbert (St. Louis Cardinals)
Left Fielder: Bruce Campbell (Pittsburgh Pirates)
Center Fielder: Johnny Frederick (New York Giants)
Right Fielder: Kiki Cuyler (Cincinnati Reds)
