That is reported correctly. He gets credit for a double and an out.

From the official rules, a player is awarded a hit IF:
the batter reaches first base safely on a fair ball hit with such force, or so slowly, that any fielder attempting to make a play with the ball has no opportunity to do so;

As soon as he is safe on 1st he has a hit, no matter what happens after that.
