Another classic game at the higest level and the Cubs prevail and shutout the Mets in 13 innings. Jerry koosman threw 9 shutout innings while Jack Pfiester threw 9 of his own. In the 6th the Mets had the bases loaded and got nothing while in the 9th the Cubs did the same. In the 13th hero Harry Steinfeldt did it again with a single that broke the tie as the Cubs scored 2. Three Finger Brown on no rest came in to close out the game and the Cubs now are looking like the team that will play on.

The Mets have scored three runs in the three games and the Cubs pitching has been truly dominant. Carl Lundgren allowed a first inning run and was strong the rest of the way as Fred Beebe closed things out. Gary Gentry and the Mets were in it late tied at 1 when in the 8th the Cubs struck hard. Doc Gessler as a pinch hitter broke the tie with a two run single. The Cubs scored three and hung on as the team that is just doing what it needs to to win. The Miracle Mets now truly need a miracle to even make it a series, and they have Tom Seaver going in game 4.

06 Cubs win series 4-0
Eight total hits in the game but in the end it was the same old story as the Cubs beat the Mets and sweep them away. Johnny Evers hit an inside the park home run in the third inning in exciting fashion to open the score, while an error set up a second run for the Cubs in the 4th. The Mets would get one back in the 6th but for the final three innings Three Finger Brown faced 9 men and put them all down to close out the Mets and put Frank Chance and his Cubs into the dream Final Series.
