I quit excel years ago and only use open office (now called Apache open office)..much better, fully compatible with excel and it's free.
Try saving it with excel as a csv and then rename it to txt.
Or change the rosters.txt to rosters.csv. Load it in excel make the changes and just save it. Then change the .csv to .txt.
Apparently excel treats .csv and .txt differently, but as far as the game goes (rosters.txt), they are exactly the same.
