As far as I know that's correct. I'm also pretty certain there's a built in random factor. So there's the possibility that the player could lose weight and gain more range. I'll look and see if I can find more info..

You need to pay attention to height / weight and current defensive ratings yourself. If you draft a 18 year old SS who already is a mediocre SS with a BMI of 26 (the average young SS has a BMI of 23.5), then it is pretty likely that he will become even thicker and lose a step or two, hence making a move to 3B (for example) necessary. However, this is not guaranteed, some players may even lose weight or develop their defensive skills more... this is tied to randomness and the work ethic rating
