2013 Preview: Pitchers
2013 Preview: Pitchers
Starting Rotation:
#50 Adam Wainwright (31 R)- Wainwright recovered well from Tommy John surgery in 2012, winning 14 games and pitching 198.2 innings. With four solid pitches, Wainwright should continue to be one of the best pitchers in the National League.
#54 Jaime Garcia (26 L)- Garcia was only able to pitch 121.2 innings in 2012 because of injuries. As the only lefty in the rotation, he will try to improve on his 7 wins from last year.
#31 Lance Lynn (25 R)- Lynn had one of the best seasons of any pitcher in the National League in 2012, winning 18 games. However, his numbers dropped off late in the season, so the hard throwing righty will need to get back to where he was at the beginning of last year.
#35 Jake Westbrook (35 R)- Westbrook, the veteran of the staff, doesn't have as much velocity as many of the younger pitchers, but he was still able to win 25 games over the last two years. Solid movement and control allows for him to still have success at the major league level.
#22 Shelby Miller (22 R)- Miller has been one of the greatest prospects in the farm system for a few years, and now he will get his chance to pitch in the majors. He did well his short stint with the Cardinals last year, allowing only two runs in 13.2 innings.
