COLD CREEK SWEEPS COLFAX
The Cold Creek Catamounts with their super pitching staff made shambles of the Ruthlandian Elite 8 Series with Colfax by sweeping it in four straight games... the Catamounts knocked the Blasters out of the IPA playoffs with a 5-3 decision in game four behind the solid pitching of J. J. Gillespie, who went the route for his second win in the series... Gillespie (2-0/3.57) fanned 4, walked 2 and held Colfax to 3 runs on 8 hits.
Cold Creek LF Shelby Glasscock (.500) had another big hand in the win with his third homer in the series... he had 2 hits and batted in 3 runs... 1B Leland Henley (.429) also lent a hand with a 2-run homer... and CF Ken Brennan (.158) went 2-for-4 and scored twice... the Catamounts collected 10 hits in the game.
SS Gerry Sives (.467), LF Chet Penn (.357) and 2B Howard Winston (.235) led the Blasters... Sives had a home run among his 3 hits, Penn was 2-for-4 and scored twice, while Winston smacked a pair of hits and batted in 2 runs.
Randell Perkins (0-2/7.07) was the losing hurler... he allowed 5 runs and 9 hits in his 8 innings... he struck out 5 and walked 2.
Winning manager Scoop Lemieux spoke highly of his Catamounts. He said, "We played very well in the series... our pitching was great as expected... but it was our bats that made the different... I just hope it continues... if it does, we have a good chance to bring home the Pro Cup to Cold Creek."
Losing skipper Ilya Szabo told the press, "Our pitching was bad and so was our hitting... 'nuff said... we got swept... Cold Creek will be a factor in this year's Pro Cup if they continue to play anywhere near the way they played us... we knew they had pitching, but their hitting surprised me."
Cold Creek was seeded sixth in The Islandian Times Pro Cup predictions... Colfax was rated seventh in the poll.
SPORTS TIE CRUSADERS, THURBER WINS 6-2
