2036 IPA Pro Cup Finals
(best-of-seven)

HAWKS WIN 2ND PRO CUP CROWN
For the second time in three seasons the North Hills Hawks are the best baseball team in Islandia... the Hawks outscored St. John 10-7 in game six at the Hawk's Nest to haul in the IPA Pro Cup... North Hills rattled the fences for 16 hits to win the series four games to two... the Hawks were unbeaten throughout the playoffs on their home field, taking all 8 games.

North Hills ran up a 5-0 lead in the first six frames, but withstood the Crusaders' comeback when they rallied for 4 runs in the seventh... the Hawks then went to town again with a run in the seventh and 4 more in the eighth making it 10-4 on the scoreboard... St. John went out fighting with 3 in the ninth, but fell short and were eliminated.

C Mikhail Romanovsky (.349) tripled in 3 runs to top the Hawks' bats... with help from LF Adam Thurgood (.222) with a 2-run homer... and SS Norris Henry (.362), who batted in 2 runs with a double and a sac fly... leading the Crusaders' 15-hit attack were 1B Johnny Zaun (.353) and SS Byron Johannsen (.241) each with 2 runs batted in.

2B Kiril Ivonoski (.407) had 3 hits and 2 runs for North Hills... LF Adam Thurgood (.222) scored 3 times and drove in 2 runs... and 1B Ric Hamilton (.348), RF Gerry Rice (.400), CF Kris Anastas (.263) and SS Norris Henry (.363) all had 2 hits apiece.

2B Norm Murdoch (.339) went 4-4 for the Crusaders and five players socked 2 hits each: 1B Johnny Zaun (.353), RF Nicky Farrugia (.348), CF Art Kelley (.329), SS Byron Johannsen (.241), and C Sawyer Deane (.270).

Thank goodness that Frankie Lambert (4-0/4.88) got great run support... without it he would have been in dire straits... Lambert hurled a complete game and was tagged for 7 runs and 15 hits... the loss went to Crusader starter Lou Gianakos (2-3/4.30), who gave up 5 runs and 9 hits in 6 innings... Gianakos departed behind 5-0.

Winning skipper Todd Simons didn't single out any of his players and told the press, "I know it trite and a cliche, but this really was a team effort... when we needed somebody to rise to the occasion, somebody did... we got hitting when we needed it and pitching when we needed." North Hills was the third ranked team in the playoffs, while St. John was the fourth pick.

Clayton Luck, manager of St. John, congratulated Simons and the Hawks on a great season... "The Hawks really stand out at the plate and on the mound... Todd's club can beat you in many ways... you have to be on top of your game to whip them... they were brilliant on the mound in the first three games and out-of-sight with the bats in game six."
