thanks for adding some comments with what i am trying
one reason the overall totals are too high for reality is a) i have injuries on very low, so players who would miss 15 games here, 78 games there don't happen
b) i am at this point playing 162 game seasons rather than 154 as they were at the time,
the two there should raise totals in a season or lifetime by around 10%. so ruth's 800 home runs would round down to 720 which would put things right about where he is
i was concerned not seeing foxx or greenberg ect as with the extra 8 game and less injuries, they should have scored higher..but I came up with more of a reason why this was happening at the end of this post
i kept things like this as i was not sure the game itself has players rated correctly for injuries, and this would give me more an idea how the seasons were playing out
HOWEVER,, and I was just going to post this, I did realize that in making my modifier alterations that i was making a bit of an error in the whole thing. That error came by accident. I accidentaly deleted this very game from my saved folder. Gone.
So i restarted at 1955 and kept going. But now the game did not have all the extra players who had retired pre 1954, and I decided as a test to have players retire according to history. now following the same format, home runs, average ect skyrocketed. WAY past normal. Because there we no "retired" players taking homers and hits away, they went to the players in the lineup-
hence by the 1930's there were lots more players who were retired in real life, but still in the game in teh starting lineups, given the way the game engine runs, that distributes a more hits and homers to more players, hence on average each player will look like they have picked up less
So i see that what i was doing in this thread was really for ONLY a league that wants to run without the "automatic retire" check on. When more players are in a season than real life, then there should be some sort of at times major upward adjustment if the top players get close to their numbers,
but if playing with retire on, then i can see that the modifier still needs a boost, but a much much smaller boost then i have been working here. Maybe 20% of any boost to the value i was using
All in all it has been a very interesting experiment so far as how modifiers actually affect the stats of a league is something i haven;t really studied that much, so just for that it has been a very interesting examination of how this facet works
it is late now, will post those big number seasons tomorrow to show the difference without the retired players
