RU STARS WHIP TU STARS 4-2
Shaky defense gave the Ruthlandian All-Stars a 4-2 victory over the Tycobbian All-Stars in the 37th annual All-Star Classic played at the Hawk's Nest in North Hills... three infield errors in the fifth inning led to the winning runs... Danny Bierhoff (Elnora) and Bobby Gamble (Sugar Valley) homered for the victors, while Jerry Culpepper (Bayview) went deep for Tycobbia... Bierhoff was voted the game's Most Valuable Player... J. J. Gillespie (Cold Creek) got the win, but gave up three hits and a run in his two innings... the loss went to Vance Codsworth (Bayview), who gave up two unearned runs in the fifth... Ruthlandia used six hurlers in the game and Tycobbian seven... the RU Stars were outhit 10-7... SS Gerry Sives (Colfax) led them with 2 hits... CF Sogo Takagi (Ginza), C Felton Welch (Denton City) and Jerry Culpepper (Bayview) all had 2 hits apiece for the losers... Tycobbia is still way ahead in the series 24-13 in spite of Ruthlandia winning for the second straight year... last year's score was also 4-2.

Tycobbia took an early lead in the second on a solo homer by Culpepper... Ruthlandia's Bierhoff came right back and tied it up in the third with his home run... in the third Tycobbia again got the lead on a double by Takagi and two singles by Lorne Evans (Tuckanarra) and Welch... the decisive fifth was error-filled when Johnny Petrak (Eastshore) reached first on a miscue by Codsworth... a throwing error by catcher Felton Welch on Bobby Meusel's (Belair Beach) bunt put runners on second and third... first baseman Gerry Hathaway (Luxora) misplayed Bierhoff's grounder and allowed Petrak to tie the score at 2-2... Meusel scored when Marty Blankenship (St. John) grounded into a double play, giving the RU Stars a 3-2 edge... in the sixth Bobby Gamble went deep for the final score.
