Tommy Vavas' bases-loaded single provided the decisive run.

LA CLAIRE SNATCHES LEAD 4-1
In the first game of the Tycobbian Elite 8 Series the highly-favored Tuckanarra Blue Jays had everything going their way... they were at home at Central Park Stadium, they had 24-winner Bobby Reid on the hill and they were the highest-scoring offense in the IPA this season... but they forgot to tell Pat Kovacs of the La Claire Lynx... Kovacs clipped the Blue Jays' wings 4-1 to give La Claire a one-game lead in the series... Kovacs (1-0) limited the hard-hitting Tucks to just one run and 4 hits in 8 sparkling innings... closer Terry Baird finished it out for the save with a scoreless ninth...
