Otherwise to the OP you might want to consider setting your starting season in the early to mid 1970s or, if you want to play for a longer period before the mean old mid-90s, don't mind station to station baserunning, and are willing to experience a mini-dead ball era, the mid to late 50s.

Thanks. As far as evolution is concerned, if I start the league in the 1950's, will the game follow the same modifier progression that historically took place IRL?
If I start the league in a future year, or say this year and edit the modifiers myself, will the game randomly change the modifiers in such a way that at some point my league may experience a "dead ball era" or vice versa?
