2038 IPA Pro Cup Playoffs - IPA Elite 8 Series

Ruthlandian Union

COLFAX CRUSHES SV 8-2 AGAIN
For the second day in a row Colfax walloped Pro-Cup favored Sugar Valley 8-2 to take a huge 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series... Blaster starter Bobby Porter (1-0) halted the Rattlers on just 4 hits and a run in his 8 innings... yesterday Norb Harbison beat them by the same score... Jeremy Blanchard (0-1) picked up the loss as he permitted 5 runs and 5 hits in 7 innings.

C Mitch Fullerton (.429) and 1B Kristian McEly (.375) again hit homers and drove in a pair of runs to spark the Blasters... SS Gerry Sives (.333) added 2 RBIs to the cause... LF Tyler White (.125) and PH Kent Rasmus got solo roundtrippers in defeat... Colfax led 2-1 after five innings, them wrapped up the game with 3 in the sixth and 3 more in the ninth.

COLTON'S HR BEAT REDHAWKS 2-1, SERIES TIED
In the second game of the IPA Elite 8 Series between Claxton and Far Mountain, 2B Gary Colton (.250) broke up a brilliant pitching duel between Abe Schiffman and Frankie Moreland with a home-run clout in the last of the eighth to tie the series at one game each... Schiffman (1-0) and Moreland (0-1) both went the distance... Schiffman struck out 8, walked one, and surrendered only one run on 8 hits... Moreland only allowed 2 runs on 6 hits... 1B Jojo DeLucca (.500) and CF Ivan Krause (.500) had 2 hits each to pace the Diamonds, while the Redhawks' SS Dan Vance (.500) went 3-for-4.

Tycobbian Union

OWENS TOPS BOEHM 2-0, HAWKS WIN FIRST TWO
Game two of the series was another classic pitching duel as North Hills' Jeff Owens blanked Turon and Armin Boehm 2-0 on a 4-hitter to put the Hawks up two games to none... North Hills has given up only one run in the first two games... Owens (1-0) was outstanding with 8 Ks, no walks... Boehm (0-1) stood out, too, permitting only 2 runs on 5 hits with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks... three doubles in the eighth snapped the scoreless tie... 3B Jim McDermott (.286) led off the inning with a two-bagger and SS Norris Henry (.429) and C Mikhail Romanovsky (.143) both doubled in runs... SS Clyde Kingsford (.556) and C Gil Erwin (.500) sparked the Typhoons with 2 hits apiece... they were the only ones to get hits off of Owens.

TUCKS POWER BY LA CLAIRE 7-5, EVEN SERIES
Tuckanarra finally came alive and snapped a five-game postseason losing streak against the La Claire Lynx by powering past them 7-5 with the help of three homers by C Jon Paul (.600), RF Lorne Evans (.222) and 2B Nicky Weill (.714)... La Claire knocked off the Blue Jays in a four-game sweep last year and won game one this year.

Tuckanarra jumped ahead early with 4 runs in the first and 3 more in the third, then had to hold off the Lynx in the late innings... Weill (.714) led the Jays with 3 hits and 3RBIs... and LF Spade Weldon (.333) and 1B Andy Preston (.429) helped out with 2 hits each... 3B Rog Clemens (.125) was the Lynx's top bat with 3 runs batted in... Tucks' starter Bobby Reid (1-0) got credit for the victory, but he gave up 5 runs and 8 hits in 7-plus innings... reliever Jack Rogers notched the save by getting the last five outs, striking out three of them... Bruce Kinson (0-1) was tagged hard and got the loss... he allowed 7 runs in 2.2 innings... Tuckanarra's 3B Daniel Redd left the game with an arm injury... no word yet on how severe it was.
