While it was not a great spring as we may have expected manager Walt Weiss focused on giving every player plenty of playing time to evaluate who would start at each position, while many were set in stone some players surprised and may have earned a starting spot. An example is it looks like last years utility infielder Rosell Herrera might have somehow earned himself a spot on the starting 9 with a fantastic spring hitting .328/.406/.541 with 2 HR and 11 RBI in 61 AB and while Wilmer Flores was fantastic last year he is a bit of a liability in the field with a -3.0 RF in the field last season.
