If you start before 1901, you would have to do all of the expansion and franchise moves yourself if you want it to be historically accurate. The game does have a simplified league structure with gradual expansion for 19th century baseball that is handled automatically. One of the 1871 teams is the Brooklyn Atlantics. In real life, there was no major league Brooklyn franchise between 1876-1883. The team that is now the Dodgers actually joined the American Association in 1884, but in the game's version of history the 1871 Brooklyn Atlantics will stay in the league and eventually become the Dodgers.
