1983 - Seattle Trade & SIgning
05/11/1983 - Seattle today announced that they traded outfielder Dave Collins to the San Diego Padres for reliever Joe Edelin. Collins is an original Mariner from the expansion days but has been used sparingly the past 4 seasons. Edelin, in his 3rd year, had a promising rookie campaign earning 42 saves as the Padres closer but has since been moved to a setup role. This season Edelin was 1-2 with a 6.43 ERA in 9 games.
Shortly after acquiring Edelin, the Mariners sent him down to AAA and announce that they had re-signed Richie Zisk to provide some right-handed outfield help to the team. Zisk had spent the past 3 seasons with Seattle and helped them to 2 consecutive World Series titles but wasn't re-signed after the '82 season. Zisk didn't find any takers in the off-season and signed with Seattle for $170K for this season.
