The all out battle for the lead in the NL West has continued between the Rockies and Padres while the Dodgers have fallen back a little bit to 5 games back. June saw the Rockies go 14-11 for the month as the offense has cooled off a little bit, especially LF Yasukazu Tsuchiya who had 17 HR in the first month of the season has just 9 since then in the last 2 months. The Rockies rookie starting pitchers Evan Anderson and Travis O'Bryan have started to improve though as they get more experience which is a good sign.
Speaking of pitchers the Rockies could be in for some tough decisions next season again but in a good way. Currently the Rockies have 5 good pitchers making up their rotation but they have 3 pitchers in the top 20 on the top prospects list and 2 are in AAA currently looking ready to come up very soon and another in AA. When it comes to their rotation currently Drew Pomeranz seems to be the odd man out as he is the only player over the age of 30 and who does not have a long term contract or is arbitration eligible, but this season he is 9-0 in 16 starts with a team best 3.56 ERA. It will be interesting to see this offseason.
The Rockies sent 5 players to the all star game this summer:
- SP Drew Pomeranz - 9-0 3.50 ERA
- SP Bryant Reed - 8-4 3.83 ERA
- Closer Rex Brothers - 4-2 20 Saves 3.19 ERA
- LF Yasukazu Tsuchiya - .370/.464/.756 25 HR 69 RBI
- RF Glenn Mackie - .311/.363/.550 14 HR 49 RBI
