War Year Cardinals continued
George Fallon - infielder for the Cardinals 1943-45.
Freddy Schmidt - relief pitcher with the Cardinals in 1944, military service in 1945, returned to the Cardinals 1946-47.
Eddie Dyer - manager of the Cardinals 1946-50 - pitched for the Cardinals in 1922-27 but suffered a career ending arm injury. From 1928-44 Dyer served in the Cardinals farm system as a manger and director. When Billy Southworth left the Cardinals to manage the Braves in 1946, Dyer was summoned to the new Cardinals manager.
Billy Southworth - manager of the Cardinals 1940-45 - was an outfielder for the Cardinals in 1926-27, managed their AAA Rochester farm club in 1928, then became the player-manager of the Cardinals for 1929. He was sent back to manage in the Cardinals farm system in 1930 but was brought back to manage the big league Cardinals in 1940. In 1946, he left St. Louis to take over as manager of the Boston Braves.
Walt Sessi - outfielder - had a cup of coffee with the Cardinals in 1941, returned to the minor leagues, made it back to the big leagues with the Cardinals in 1946.
