Ominous Offseason Beginning
As I was sitting at my desk going through the current year financials and jotting down notes for the 2012 budget Tina buzzed me and indicate that Dwight was here to see me.
“Send him in, I am not ready to stop celebrating, but we need to formulate a plan for the upcoming season.”
“Good Morning and Congratualions, Kage, you really pulled all the right strings this year to bring the Championship back to Madison.” Stated Dwight.
“Why thank you Dwight, but your vision and plan for the team was really a critical piece and I look forward to doing it again.”
“Well… that is why I am here. I have been in this game a long time and I didn’t realize how tired I was until this year. Watching this team succeed and is really the pinnacle of my career anything after this would feel like work. What I am trying to say is that I am going to hang it up and retire. I appreciate the opportunity and being a part of a winning organization and the Championship.”
As I collapsed into my chair I exclaimed. “Is there anything that can change your mind? Is it money?”
“Not at all, I don’t think I can give you the time and the advice you need. I will leave you with a strong recommendation. I would recommend that you hire my protégé, Wesley Peters. I think that he is ready.”
“I will give it some thought, but are you sure about this?”
“Positive” replied Dwight.
“Let me be the first to thank you for your dedication to the Mallard organization and most of all to the game of baseball, and good luck in your future endeavors.”
“Thank You, Sir and once again. Congratulations on your first World Series and the Mallards Second.”
With that all of a sudden I am scrambling to find a new scouting director, this was not even close to being on my to do list let alone shooting the top.
