One Last Batch of 1940s Cardinals

Pepper Martin - OF - starred for the Cardinals 1930-40 - in 1941 he became a player-manager in the Cardinals farm system - with the war taking personnel, the Cardinals returned him to their roster to play the 1944 season at the age of 40.

Jimmy Brown - 2B-3B-SS for the Cardinals from 1937-43 - military service in 1944-45 - returned in 1946 to play one year for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Lon Warneke - P for the Cardinals from 1937-42, originally played for the Cubs 1930-36 and was traded back to the Cubs by the Cardinals during the 1942 season.

Bob Keely - Catcher - was actually the bullpen catcher for the Cardinals but was activated for one game in 1944 and one game in 1945 - left St. Louis with manager Billy Southworth and became a coach for the Braves for the next decade.
