Plenty of excitement early, in this one.

John McGraw, in his first start against Cleveland opened with a single off Walter Johnson. Miguel Cabrera followed with a single of his own. Mike Trout, who's performance this season is perhaps the biggest pleasant surprise, offensively, brought them home with a triple. Rico Petrocelli then brought home Trout with a ground out for his ML leading 67th RBI.

Neither team has surrendered a three run lead to the other, all season. Game over.

But Cleveland still wanted to play it out. OK.

Mickey Mantle hit a one out triple and Lou Gehrig brought him home with a grounder to short. 3-1 Charlotte.

Walter Johnson set down the Battle Cats in the second. With Barry Bonds at second base and two out in the bottom half, Gary Carter connected for his 5th HR on the season. 3-3. New game.

Kevin Mitchell opened the bottom of the 4th with a single off Unknown McDoolan. Stan Musial dropped a single to RF. When Eric Davis threw wild in an effort to cut down Mitchell, Catman scored and Musial was at second.

Larry Doyle brought home Mitchell and the Sergeants were now up two, 5-3.

After setting down the Battle Cats in the 5th, Walter Johnson aided his own cause by opening the Segeant 5th with a single. Lou Gehrig came up with Mickey Mantle now joined with Johnson on the basepaths and hit a 3 run shot to put the Sergeants ip 5.

With Walter Johnson in a totally dominant groove, the Sergeants cruised to a 9-3 win, taking the series and a one game lead in the pennant race.
