Offseason and Spring Training Review

The offseason for the Rockies was a fairly quiet one as they offered arbitration to all 4 players we mentioned in our preview with both starting pitchers winning their cases and being awarded over $6,000,000 each while the team won the cases with their relievers. The team also did not resign RP Charlie Furbush electing to go with someone from the AAA team although they may trade or sign for a reliever now that in spring training Rafael Aviles was injured and is expected to miss 5-6 months.
The one big thing of note for the Rockies was a trade involving 4 minor leaguers. The Rockies finalized a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays on the 25th of November that sent #13 overall prospect 22 year old SP Jesus Ortega and and 25 year old minor league SP Claudio Martinez to the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rockies rotation is pretty well set and they still have a 20 year old phenom in AAA knocking at the door in Jorge Sanchez. In return the Rockies got 22 year old minor league 3B Raul Cruz who was ranked as the #19 prospect in baseball. They also received 23 year old minor league SP Andy Sine who is a groundball machine and was the #62 overall prospect.
Spring Training
The Rockies continued their hot play from last season this spring as they went 20-3 in the springs with multiple players doing well. Let's take a look at the projected roster.
