REDHAWKS EASY WINNER IN RU NORTH
Picked fourth in the preseason poll, Far Mountain surprised the experts and won the Ruthlandian North Division in a breeze by eight games over second-place Kilkenny, the favorite... Ranford came in third, trailing by nine... LaGrange and Ancona were tied for fourth and 11 games back... Far Mountain went all the way to the Pro Cup Finals last season, but was swept by IPA champ North Hills.

1. Far Mountain Redhawks: won with outstanding pitching and lousy bats... second straight division title.
Top Starters: Chad Cummings (25-8/2.84), Karl Nordheim (21-8/3.44) and Dennis Sasek (16-16/2.44)
Top Relievers: Ryan Kolb (5-5/2.50/19 saves), Russell McIntosh (8-9/3.17/5 saves)
Top Batters: RF Bert Richter (.277/23/85/84), LF Harlan Silver (.286/13/65/68)

2. Kilkenny Cats: strong pitching, weak offense... came in second last season, tied with LaGrange.
Top Starters: Dave Whitaker (21-15/2.03), James Crockett (18-18/3.20), Judson Davis (16-8/3.72), Dave Stratford (15-17/3.65) -- Whitaker led the IPA with a 2.03 ERA
Top Relievers: Joe Pierce (2-5/1.93/15 saves)
Top Batters: star 2B Leevi Viru (.278/21/96/61), 3B Jorge Collazo (.278/11/64/83)

3. Ranford Bulls: made first divsion for the first time in five seasons with solid starters and pretty fair bats... was seventh in 2038.
Top Starters: Frank Yosarian (20-11/3.52), Ronnie Schroeder (18-17/2.87), Ralph Hawk (16-16/3.08), Earl Cook (10-3/3.03/1 save)
Top Relievers: (none)
Top Batters: LF Dale Weston (.316/39/105/108)

4. LaGrange Sports: tied Kilkenny last year for the runner-up spot... better on paper than record... fine pitching and hitting stats, but were only two games over .500... had 169 HRS (8th).
Top Starters: Ryan Janssen (16-12/3.30/7 saves), Hot Dog Huxtable (15-12/3.41), Mike York (15-17/3.38) and Walt Thurber (12-17/3.22)
Top Relievers: (none)
Top Batters: CF Deron Barkley (.283/31/80/93), SS John Rodgers (.282/16/82/93), RF Charles Bacque (.312/16/65/81)

4. Ancona Red Elephants: sixth last year... second division club for last four years... came in tied for fourth this season... pitching improved.
Top Pitchers: Pablo Pilar (21-15/3.35), Lucian Kairis (16-7/3.21), Clyde Fairchild (13-14/3.75)
Top Relievers: Steven Russell (7-6/3.30/12 saves)
Top Batters: 3B Tommy Richardson (.360/30/132/87), C Gregg Straka (.300/4/52/70)... Richardson had a fantastic year... was second in the IPA in batting average (.360), in hits (220), third in doubles (39) and first in RBIs (132).

6. Valmara Vipers: wound up in sixth place and the second division for the seventh year in a row... lackluster pitching and hitting.
Top Starters: Harold Hudson (17-16/3.82)
Top Relivers: Clark Van Vreeland (8-6/2.40/15 saves)
Top Batters: LF Gary Peterson (.346/29/70/73)

7. Taranto Tars: fourth-straight year in the second division... mediocre pitching, not much at the plate except for HRs (179-4th) (due to the small part).
Top Starters: rookie Mario Martinelli (17-9/3.09)... Doug Hansack (16-14/3.76)
Top Relievers: (none)
Top Batters: 1B Mark Delaney (.265/33/98/81), CF Gary Tramonte (.309/30/71/71)

8. Glasco Athletics: fell to last place after three-year run in the first division of the RU North... average pitching, lacks scoring, but does hit with power (156 HRs-12th).
Top Starters: Basil Newchurch (15-15/3.26)
Top Relievers: Steven Derby (3-4/3.41/3 saves)
Top Batters: SS Terry Johnstone (.277/18/78/82), CF Travis Houston (.303/21/76/68), 1B Tim Jarvis (.280/12/60/86)
