July marks the beginning of International Amateur Signing period. We signed three youngsters. First was Stephen Avery. We paid $2.28 mil for the Australian righthander. C Quintin Dempster, Avery's batter mate and a switchitter. He signed for $242k. Finally we signed Roberto Zapata, A Dominican Righthander for $530k.

July also marks the halfway point and the All Star Game in Cincinatti. Montreal had two representatives in Paul Konerko and Cory Gearrin. Both are very deserving.

At the end of July, the Expos are 10 games below .500 and 9 games behind the Red Sox in the AL East.
