Draft Pool Revealed

For would be rookies, a list of whom was announced today by the league, the wait to find out whether or not they have been selected is excruciating. It’s tough just getting a scout to notice you, to think you are worth investing an organization’s future in. The draft day arrives and you are snatched up by someone you may not have expected. Some will catch on big; others will be away from home for the first time and will struggle to gain a solid footing in the minors. Still others will battle through, gain that coveted footing and go on to a solid professional career.

League officials have made the information available for all clubs in a new section of the Transaction page. Teams now have a chance to scout the draft pool for 30 days before the draft is held.

The top players available (in no particular order) seems to be:

Rich Johnston, 19 year-old third baseman out of college
Frank Adams, 24 year-old first baseman out of college
Joe Thompson, 20 year-old starting pitcher out of college
Eli Dunn, 20 year-old starting pitcher out of college
Ryan Bell, 20 year-old third baseman out of college
Thom Brown, 20 year-old third baseman out of college
Scott Piper, 19 year-old third baseman out of college
Chris Edwards, 20 year-old center fielder out of college
Michael Coleman, 22 year-old shortstop out of college
Antonio Soto, 22 year-old starting pitcher out of college

Mallards have the 23rd pick in the draft and no supplemental picks. A review of the draft pool reveals that it sucks.
