You can lock everyone on a team from the Transactions page with the little bullet next to Pos at the top Left of the roster for each team, selecting them all and right clicking on one guy and disable AI promotion and demotion

Thanks. i'll try that. curious, if i lock everyone up to level, would AI be able to call the guy up to the majors as injury replacement? if not i can easily do what you suggest only on low level real prospects, which should prevent them being released, by AA AI does not seem to have problem recognising potential.
note: the increase roster size to no limit, seems to be better. after 3 months, only non-upside prospects have been let go, and mostly to make room in international which was at 50.... will monitor the effect of Draft signing, and the influx of players.
