2041 IPA DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES - Game Seven
Ruthlandian Union
BULLS WIN GAME 7 BEHIND HAWK
Defending IPA champion Ranford dodged a big bullet in San Dimas... the underdog Bulls got another clutch performance from their ace Ralph Hawk in game seven at Ranchero Stadium... Hawk completely dominated the Ranchero 4-0 on a three-hitter... he allowed only singles, fanned five and walked only one in a superlative outing... that gave Ranford the series four games to three and kept them in the running for its second straight Pro Cup.
The Bulls charged out to a 1-0 lead in the opening inning on a lead-off double by CF Roger Farnsworth (.259) and an RBI single by 3B Pete Bankston (.321)... 2B Harley Freeman (.154) upped it to 2-0 with a solo homer in the second... 1B Maury Quave (.500) scored Freeman from third with a single in the seventh... Ranford made it 4-0 in the eighth when SS Stan Cobb (.269) walked, went to second on a ground-out, stole third and came in on a passed ball.
24-game winner Gil Arnaud (0-3/3.38) had a decent game... he was touched for nine hits and four runs, while going the route... Arnaud walked two and whiffed seven... he just couldn't match up with Hawk, who continued his amazing postseason run with three victories and a terrific 0.68 ERA in his three starts... Hawk beat the Rancheros 3-1, 5-1 and 3-0... last year he won the Pro Cup MVP and led the Bulls to their first Pro Cup ever.
Winning manager Chris Bernhoffer was overjoyed with the win, telling reporters, "Hawk is unbelievable... and he even gets better when the series is on the line... he's our Money Man."
San Dimas skipper Wesley Pate was downhearted as expected. He told the press, "We came back from 3-1 and it got down to one game and we didn't win it. We dug ourselves a deep hole and we didn't quite dig our way out of it... Keep in mind that Ranford is a solid ball club and just might repeat as Pro Cup champion... there is no shame in losing to them... I'm proud of the way my Rancheros played... the Bulls know they were in a tough series."
