2041 IPA PRO CUP SERIES - Game One
'CATS WIN OPENER, GILLESPIE OVER OWENS 1-0
The opening game of the 2041 IPA Pro Cup Finals at the Hawk's Nest in North Hills was a dilly... the pitching was almost perfect with Cold Creek superstar J. J. Gillespie just barely getting the best of North Hills' superstar Jeff Owens 1-0... Gillespie (3-2/1.41) tossed a five-hit gem, struck out six batters and walked no one in a splendid mound display... Owens (3-1/1.47) was almost as good... he only permitted one run on seven hits, but did surrender five bases on balls, while fanning three... LF Reynaldo Alvarado (.300) delivered the game-breaker in the fifth frame... he tripled in Gillespie (.133) with the only run in the game.
Gillespie was magnificent and only allowed two runners to get to second base... SS Jeremy Hall (.300) led the Catamounts at the plate with two singles... the Hawks' best bats belonged to 2B Tommy Vavas (.269) and LF Adam Thurgood (.388), who each had a pair of singles.
Cold Creek got some bad news... CF Ken Brennan hurt his wrist in the Ranford series and will miss most of this series... he landed hard on his wrist while trying to make a diving catch... Brennan might return to action on Sunday or Monday... Brennan is an outstanding defender and a solid hitter with a club-high .326 batting average in the regular season.
