01/05/1984 - Montreal Swaps With San Francisco
Montreal and San Francisco have agreed to a trade today. 25-year-old shortstop Fritzie Connally will go to the Giants. In exchange the Expos will receive 33-year-old starting pitcher John Montefusco. Thus far in his career, Montefusco has worked 2304.2 innings with 1505 strikeouts en route to a 150-109 record. The 33-year-old also has a 3.27 ERA.
01/05/1984 - Pittsburgh Signs Robinson
Team insiders were tight-lipped prior to today's deal that brought 26-year-old starting pitcher Don Robinson to Pittsburgh. Robinson is considered one of the league's A-list players and certainly will enhance any chances the Pirates have to win a playoff spot this year. In his career Robinson has fanned 682 batters and walked 302 in 1087 innings of work. His lifetime won-lost record is 64 victories and 58 defeats with a 3.54 ERA and opposing hitters have compiled a .257 against him.

Pittsburgh officials were grinning from ear to ear as they introduced their latest blockbuster signing to the media earlier today. Mike Paxton, one of the game's marquee talents, opted for the Pirates after receiving a 3-year, $1,258,000 offer. During his career Paxton has registered a 84-75 record and 0 saves. His ERA stands at 3.85 and he has fired third strikes past 896 batters in 1412 innings while giving up 408 walks. It was a busy day for Pittsburgh!
