BEST ROOKIES CHOSEN BY IPA
Picking were very sparse this season all across the Islandian Pro Alliance. There wasn't much of a rookie crop except for a couple of pitchers and a few batters. St. John's super newcomer Frank Long was chosen the Ruthlandian Rookie of the Year and San Alejo's splendid southpaw Will McKinney garnered the Tycobbian best freshman honor.
Ruthlandian Union Rookie of the Year Award:
1. Frank Long (St. John) (19-15/2.89)
the 22-year-old right-hander had a hand in the Crusaders' winning the RU South Division flag... he had 23 complete games, four shutouts and struck out 243 batters in 301 innings... Long easily won the award, far outdistancing his peers.
2. Troy McFarland (Eastshore): .269 BA, 22 HR, 80 RBI, 80 runs, 17 SB
RF McFarland was one of the few bright spots for the last place Elegants.
3. Mike Matthews (Beechwood): .247 BA, 12 HR, 51 RBI, 87 runs, 28 SB
Matthews is fleet of foot and handles the glove very well.
Tycobbian Union Rookie of the Year Award:
1. Will McKinney (San Alejo): (24-10/2.63)
no contest in this league either as McKinney won all the first place votes with a super season... McKinney was a vital part of the Montaneros' second-place finish in the TU South race... this 100-mph left-hander led the IPA with 290 Ks in 314 innings, had 18 complete games and four shutouts.
2. Aldon Belew (Kenwood): .294 BA, 6 HR, 72 RBI, 65 runs
the first sacker played a role in the Wildcats winning their second TU West this year.
3. Ace Diamond (Colchester): .228 BA, 34 HR, 95 RBI, 69 runs
He didn't hit much for average, but first baseman Diamond produced quite a bit of offense with 34 homers and 95 RBIs to spark the Elites to a break-even season in the TU South... they came in seventh in the standings, but had a 77-77 record.
