2043 IPA PRO CUP DIVISION SERIES - Game Three

Ruthlandian Union

TARKANIAN SLAM GIVES VOLUSIA SERIES LEAD
Volusia took the series lead in the Ruthlandian Division Series two games to one on Tank Tarkanian's grand slam homer in the top of the eighth... the Vigilantes trailed Sugar Valley 7-4 on the road, but came away with a 9-7 triumph at Farmers Memorial Park.

The V's pelted Rattler pitching for 11 hits and were led by C Tarkanian (.364) with two hits and four RBIs... 3B Charlie Farmer (.500) also chipped in two hits, scored twice and batted in a run... SS Duane Blayney (.250) and 2B Carl Kendall (.375) also scored two runs apiece... Sugar Valley also collected 11 hits with SS Roger Hobbs (.643) getting four of them, LF Bobby Gamble (.300) posted three hits and two RBIs and CF Carl Ramsey (.222) poling a pair of roundtrippers and driving in 5 runs... Gamble chipped in another Rattler homer.

Will Thompson (1-0), the first of three Vigilante relievers, notched the win for Volusia, in spite of allowing two runs in his only inning... he benefitted greatly from Tarkanian game-winning blast... Afonso Tavora got the final four outs for the save... Hermie Walpole (0-1), the second of three Rattler reliever, suffered the defeat, giving up three runs in the eighth without getting an out.

VIPERS RALLY LATE FOR 8-6 VICTORY ON RITCHIE HR
At War Memorial Stadium in Valmara, the hometown Vipers came back from a 7-3 deficit to defeat Crystal Lake for the third day in a row... Don Ritchie belted a two-round homer in the last of the eighth to beat the Crushers 8-6, which gave the Vipers a big three games to none lead in the best-of-seven affair.

In relief Paul McKenzie (1-0) blanked Crystal Lake for four innings to get the win... Paul Holloway pitched a perfect ninth for the save... Crusher starter Ken Lawson (0-1) took the loss... Valmara mauled him for eight runs and eight hits in seven and two-thirds innings.

The Vipers were victorious despite being outhit 12-8 by the Crushers... CF Don Ritchie (.308) and RF Zarek Boczek (.364) both had two hits and two RBIs apiece... and pinchhitter Jacek Prusak had a crucial three-run double in the eighth... 1B Marv Roy (.364) and RF Pat Dillon (.231) paced Crystal Lake with homers... Roy had a three-run smash and Dillon a solo blast.

Tycobbian Union

HAWKS OVER SUN SOX 5-3 IN 11 INNINGS, NEAR SWEEP
For the first time in the Tycobbian Division Series, Southport was at home at Pleasure Beach Park, but it didn't help any... North Hills still prevailed for the third consecutive game, topping the Sun Sox 5-3 in 11 innings... the Hawks sent it to overtime in the eighth frame on Adam Thurgood's clout and then won it on a wild pitch three innings later.

Alex Peters (1-0) tossed two scoreless innings to get the win in relief of starter Joey Santini, who worked the first nine frames, permitting three runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and three walks... Southport's Gordon Forbes (0-1) pitched well until he tired in the 11th... Forbes surrendered five runs on 11 hits in his 10 innings, but couldn't get anybody out in the 11th... he fanned five and walked three.

North Hills socked 11 hits with 2B Tommy Vavas (.250), C Timmy Stevens (.333), 1B Oscar Pendleton (.375) and pitcher Santini (.667) each getting a pair of hits... topping the Sun Sox were CF Barney Lewis (.250) and SS Gonzalo Topez (.429) with two hits apiece.

STALLIONS WIN AGAIN, UP 3-0 IN SERIES
Defending Pro Cup champion South Fork took a giant step in the TU Division Series by winning its third game in a row over Arlon... game three went to the Stallions 4-2 behind the fine pitching of Big Murph McAlister, who stymied the Champions on two runs and three hits in eight sharp innings... McAlister (1-0) struck out four and walked six for the win... Gary Golden got the save by getting the last three outs in the ninth... Paul Sweet (0-1) was the losing pitcher... he went seven and two-thirds innings, allowed four runs on seven hits, while walking six and fanning three... the winning run came in on 3B Elton Jacoby's sac fly in the top of the fourth... Maury Yates (.286) singled in Jess Wilkerson in the last of the fifth for an insurance run.

South Fork had seven hits to Arlon's four... SS Jess Wilkerson (.417) drove in two runs to lead the Stallions... chipping in two hits each were CF Scotty O'Sullivan (.455) and RF John Dunham (.538)... 3B Jason Dixon (.125) and pitcher Paul Sweet (.000) drove in the Champions' only runs.
