IPA PLAYOFFS DOWN TO 4 TEAMS
The IPA Pro Cup playoffs have been carved down to four teams for the League Championship Series. Pro Cup favorite Southport and Red Bluff will vie for the Tycobbian Union title, while it'll be Wynnamac and Crystal Lake tangling for the Ruthlandian crown. Play begins this Saturday afternoon.
The Southport Sun Sox were the number-one choice of the media in The Islandian Times Pro Cup poll, while the Wynnamac Sundowners were rated second, the Red Bluff Red Sox fourth and the Crystal Lake Crushers came in eighth and last in the balloting.
The Sun Sox (104-50) had the best overall record in the regular campaign, the Sundowners (98-56) were number two, the Red Sox (95-59) were in third place and the Crushers (85-69) were 18th. Southport and Wynnamac will have the homefield advantage in the League Championship Series.
Southport is favored over Red Bluff... they both have strong pitching, but the Sun Sox offense is superior to the Red Sox... the clubs are just average with the gloves.
Southport: .273 BA (3rd)/822 runs (1st)/172 HR (9th)/2.91 ERA (2nd)/.970 FA
Red Bluff: .255 BA (20th)/692 runs (18th)/216 HR (2nd)/3.07 ERA (3rd)/.972 FA
The experts are giving the nod to Wynnamac over Crystal Lake... the Sundowners' staff is much better than the Crushers... offense is a little better... and the defense is better.
Wynnamac: .271 BA (7th)/800 runs (4th)/153 HR (11th)/3.25 ERA (2nd)/.975 FA
Crystal Lake: .281 BA (2nd)/780 runs (6th)/123 HR (26th)/3.90 ERA (17th)/.972 FA
