Just some follow up on the contracts of my young Sabres. Thinking about it the problem is mostly that my players, who have little NHL experience at that point, are being treated like Landeskog or Nugent-Hopkins. They should be treated like Nazem Kadri. One good season of a highly rated young player translated to a 2.5m/2y bridge contract. Now that was just before the new season that he signed.
I don't expect contracts to be perfect, to be honest I think that's something you'll always be tuning year after year. I'm just trying to make sure you guys have the appropriate information when it's time for more adjustments.
I think a 'Qualify' option on the player's right click menu would be a good idea. If would pass the one year qualifier to the player who will either accept it or not and the action would have little to no effect on further negotiations.
The negotiating process should get some adjustments eventually. I find it inflexible right now. The player asks for an amount and you can haggle it down a little but I have seen any signs of bridge contracts as options. And generally I find I get about 5 chances to hit the response button and after that the negotiation is over. Doesn't leave much room for negotiation.
My negotiations with Girgensons were especially tough. He wanted 6.4m/4y. I started by trying 4.5m/4y and he was straight into neutral. Then tried 6m/4y and then he quit negotiations. Two chances and then it was over. I imagine Girgensons might have low patience but that's still tough to work with.
Like I said ongoing adjustments.
