2044 IPA LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES - Game 5
Ruthlandian Union
CRUSHERS WIN 8-6, LEAD SERIES 3-2
Underdog Crystal Lake exploded for 7 runs in the fifth frame to rally past Wynnamac 8-6 in game five of the Ruthlandian League Championship Series... Jed Murphee's 2-run triple was the game-winner that put the Crushers up three games to two in the series.
Crystal Lake was outhit 14 to 11 by the Sundowners, but still came out on top of the score... CF Johnny Kennedy (.435) led them at the plate with 3 hits, while LF Murphee (.222) and 3B Marv Roy (.227) both had a pair... Wynnamac built up a quick 5-1 lead after 4 innings with help of SS Jeff French (.265) with 4 hits, C Edward Williams (.278) with 3 hits, and 2 hits apiece from LF Robby Booth (.226) and CF Darrell Donnelly (.341).
Ken Lawson started and got the victory for the Crushers, though he was treated harshly... Lawson (3-0/3.19) was shelled for 6 runs and 12 hits in 7 innings... Sundowner starter Sammy Hayes (2-2/5.54) couldn't hold the 4-run lead and was tagged with the defeat... Hayes allowed 8 runs and 10 hits in just 4 and two-thirds innings.
Tycobbian Union
RED SOX HANG IN WITH 5-3 WIN OVER SUN SOX
After dropping the first three games of the Tycobbian LCS and being on the verge of elimination, Red Bluff has rebounded with two straight wins to narrow Southport's lead to three games to two... Mickey Rosen was the man of the hour as he beat the Sun Sox 5-3 in game five of the best-of-seven series... this time around he got the best of Johnny Swanson... the Red Sox gave him a 5-run lead in the first and he made it stand up... Rosen (3-1/1.89) worked into the ninth, gave up 10 hits, but only 3 runs, while striking out 7 and walking one batter... Slick Little finished it and got the final two outs for his second save of the postseason... Swanson shut out the Red Sox in game two, but wasn't near as sharp in this one... a 5-run first inning proved to be his downfall... Swanson (1-1/2.66) gave up 5 runs on 4 hits, but walked 5 in his 6 innings... 3 walks and 3 hits in the opening inning did him in.
Red Bluff was pathetic at the plate and only got 4 hits in the game... C Paul White (.189) led them with 2 RBIs... 3B Fran Blanchard (.158), LF Jesse Shaw (.143) and 2B James Baxter (.167) batted in the other 3 scores... Southport got its only runs in the eighth on CF Barney Lewis' (.333) 3-run smash... RF Pat Kinney (.200) and 1B Eddy Douglas (.265) each had 2 hits and were on base when Lewis homered.
