Minoso head bandage photo.
On May 11, 1962 Minnie Minoso suffered very serious injuries, when he ran into a wall while trying to make a catch. He suffered both a skull fracture and a wrist injury while trying to make that play. He wasn't able to play again until that July 21 and was used mainly as a pinch hitter and pinch runner the rest of the season. After rejoining the Cardinals July 21 he only played the outfield in 8 games, making just 7 starts in Left Field. After August 20 he didn't play at all for the remainder of the 1962 season.
I used to have a photo of Minoso with his head bandaged, joking with his Cardinal teammates, including Stan Musial. It came from the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. I appear to have lost the photo when I moved a few years ago. I called the HOF photo archives department last month and they couldn't find a photocopy of the photo in the Minoso jacket. That means that they do have the negative somewhere, but some visitor to the HOF library/photo archives pocketed the photocopy. Without the code number of the photocopy in the proper file the negative is as good as lost.
(Visitors that just want to walk away with a photo copy they copy themselves are charged 25 cents per photo copy. Those that want a high grade photo prepared professionally by the archives staff may be charged typically 30 to 50 dollars, but possibly more, and will receive it by mail as much as three weeks later.)
If anybody has the photo that I've described could they please post it here on this website. Thanks!
