Yes, on your transaction screen you will see that each player on the active roster has at least an asterisk * and often other symbols such as ^ + !. There is a legend at the bottom of the screen. Players with just a * have minor league options left and they may be demoted without passing through waivers.
However if you want to take them off the 40-man roster you will have to put them on waivers. Players with a ^ can refuse a minor league assignment.
