most players will get their contract automatically renewed for near league minimum their first 3 years in at the major league level before going through arbitration for anothet 3 years before being eligible fpr free agency. Once in arbitration their salaries start to rise quite a bit and once they hit free agency theyll be asking for the big money. Usually I try and lock guys up in year 3 or 4 and try and get what would be their first couple free agency years at a discount
