ISLAND ALL-STARS BATTLE IN SUGAR VALLEY
The IPA Mid-Summer classic is scheduled for for this Wednesday afternoon at Farmers Memorial Park, home of the IPA Pro Cup champion Sugar Valley Rattlers. The Tycobbian All-Stars and the Ruthlandian All-Stars will engage for the 46th time with Tycobbia having a decided edge in the annual series. The TU Stars have a 29-16 advantage so far.
The Rocky Rapids Snappers and the Sugar Valley Rattlers have five players each on the RU Stars, while the Summerland Sunsets and Hartsdale Hellcats top Tycobbia with three players each. Bayview's superstar Jerry Culpepper is making his 13th appearance in the All-Star Game. Kenwood's standout catcher Corky DiNozzo has been picked 9 times, second baseman John Velasco of Fairfax 7 times, pitcher Jayson Hallstrom of Summerland 6 times and center fielder Sogo Takagi of Ginza has been chosen for the sixth time. Heading up the Ruthlandian All-Stars is Sugar Valley left fielder Bobby Gamble, who made the squad for the 11th time, Elnora catcher Cannon Johnson has made the club 7 times, Sugar Valley shortstop Roger Hobbs has been named 5 times with three players selected for the fourth time: first baseman Benny Hull of Grand City, third baseman Denny Simmons of Sligo and CF Kenny Mitsuzaka of Valka.
