SA'S BELL WINS 2ND TU GOLDEN ARM
Two years ago Matt Bell of the San Alejo Montaneros was acclaimed the best hurler in the Tycobbian Union. Now the 28-year-old star is back in the winner's circle again. He was honored with another Tycobbian Golden Arm trophy for his superlative season of 24-6 for the second place Monties in the TU South, the runner-up to the Southport Sun Sox, who claimed the division title and went on to win the Pro Cup. Southport's Billy Hoover wound up second in the poll with Red Bluff's Jud Cox in third place. Cox won the trophy last year.
This season's best Tycobbian pitcher has flourished for nine years with the Monties. Bell registered the second best ERA in the IPA with a 1.71, bested only by Jody Friday of Eastshore, the winner of the RU Golden Arm this year. Bell was fourth in strikeouts with 268 in 326 innings. Bell has won 20 games or more in seven of his nine years in the league. His overall record is 191-101 with a super low 2.35 ERA.
Hoover was 22-14 with a 1.79 ERA for the Pro Cup-winning Southport Sun Sox this year, while Cox compiled a 22-8 mark with an impressive 1.76 ERA for the Red Bluff Red Sox, the division winner in the TU North. Cox finished third in the IPA in ERA and Hoover was number four.
