The Cubs entered May in last place in the NL East with a 7-11 record. Then, the defending champs reeled off 14 straight wins before losing 9-7 to Atlanta. Despite the loss, their epic streak catapulted them to first place with a 2-game lead over the Mets in the East. Rookie third baseman Jack Howell is leading the way this month hitting .400 with 4 homers and 16 RBI's while starters Orel Hershiser and Steve Rogers have won each of their 3 starts.
