2048 IPA LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES - Game 4

Ruthlandian Union

RATTLERS EDGE DIAMONDS 5-4 FOR 3-1 LEAD
Sugar Valley moved closer to the Pro Cup Finals by whipping Claxton for the third game in a row... the Rattlers' 5-4 triumph put them within one victory of claiming the Ruthlandian Union league title... Sugar Valley leads the best-of-seven series three games to one.

Antonio Cedeno (2-2/4.60) guttied out the win, giving up 10 hits and four runs, but went the distance... Claxton's ace Abe Schiffman (1-1/3.71) was the losing pitcher... in an uneven outing he struck out nine batters in eight innings, but surrendered five runs, eight hits and three bases on balls.

Sugar Valley got all their runs in the five-run fourth frame... LF Jeff Harvey (.429) got them started with a two-run blast, his third roundtripper in the postseason... C Delmer Campbell (.257), 2B Richie Fry (.325) and 3B Roger Hobbs (.270) made it 5-0 with RBI singles... the Rattlers had nine hits in all.

Claxton collected 10 hits and were sparked by 2B Rich Emery (.065) with a pair of RBIs... CF Darryl Daniels (.321), rookie LF Whit Miley (.444) and RF Roger Jackson (.182) added two hits apiece to the Diamond attack.

Tycobbian Union

REDS SWEEP SUN SOX, PRO CUP BOUND
Rolling Hills rolled over the defending IPA champion Southport Sun Sox in four games to capture the Tycobbian Union league title and advance to the Pro Cup Finals against the Ruthlandian champion, either Sugar Valley or Claxton... Vic Scott boomed a 400-foot homer in the bottom of the 12th at the Midtown Base Ball Grounds to sink the Sun Sox 4-3.

Matthew Christianson and Marty Phillips teamed up to beat Southport... Christianson started and went eight and two-thirds innings, but didn't get the decision... he left with the scored tied at 3-all... Southport got seven hits off of him... Christianson posted 9 Ks and walked three... in a flawless performance Phillips (1-0/0.00) retired all 10 men he faced, striking out three of them for the win.

Billy Hoover kept the Sun Sox in the game, permitting three runs on seven hits in his eight innings, fanning five and walking nobody... Hal Combs (0-1/1.17) was the loser... he gave up one run on three hits in three and one-third innings... Combs struck out three and walked one batter.

SS Dustin Thibodeau (.375) returned to action after missing the last four playoff games with a bad hamstring... Thibodeau socked three hits and drove in three runs for the Reds... one of his hits was a 2-run clout that tied the game in the last of the fifth... RF Vic Scott (.406) and 1B Darwin Tard (.270) added two hits each to the Rolling Hills' offense... 1B Eddy Douglas (.277) paced the Sun Sox with two RBIs... and 2B Ricky Whitaker (.261) chipped in with two base hits.

Optimism abounds in the Rolling Hills' locker room. "After 17 years, it'll be nice to get another shot at the Pro Cup," Reds' manager Matty Christianson told the press. "We played very, very well in beating a very, very good team... We're ready, willing and able to win our third Pro Cup."

Lorne Evans in his second season at the helm of the Southport Sun Sox was disappointed that his club lost. "I thought this was our year, especially after we came back against White River in the first round... we have no excuses... the Reds outplayed us and took all four games... I think they will do well in the Finals and bring the IPA title home to Tycobbia."
