SANDERS' GRAND SLAM GAMEWINNER IN OPENER
Both Pro Cup Finalists blistered the ball in the opening game of the IPA Pro Cup Series totaling 35 hits between them... favored Rolling Hills rolled to a 12-8 slugfest win over visiting Claxton at the Midtown Base Ball Grounds... the Reds won it in the 11th on a grand slam homer by Will Sanders... Rolling Hills had to come back from a 6-0 score early in the game... the Reds rallied to take the lead 7-6 in the seventh on Orin Phillips' three-run clout, only to blow the lead in the eighth, forcing extra innings... they also trailed 8-7 going into the bottom of the 11th before stunning the Diamonds for their eighth straight postseason victory... the Reds have rattled off nothing but wins since losing the opening game of the first round.

Rolling Hills collected 15 hits, but were still outhit by Claxton, who socked 20... the Reds used five pitchers with the win going to Whizzer Whatley (1-0/4.50), though he allowed one run in his two innings... coming on in the last of the 11th to protect a one-run lead and save the game, Gilbert Clagsdale (1-2/5.79) gave up the game-winning blast for the loss and he blew the win.

The Reds big bang brigade was led by CF Will Sanders (.295) with his decisive grand slam... LF Orin Phillips (.209) added three hits and three RBIs... 3B Gene Winston (.333) chalked up two hits, drove in three and scored twice in the game... 1B Darwin Tard (.310) contributed three hits and three runs... and SS Dustin Thibodeau (.364) and RF Vic Scott (.396) socked a pair of hits apiece and scored a run.

The Diamonds clubbed 20 hits with 3B Rick Clayburne (.294) leading the way with four hits and two RBIs... CF Darryl Daniels (.377) also socked four hits and scored twice... rookie LF Whit Miley (.421) continued his hot postseason with three hits, three RBIs and two runs scored... 1B Jojo DeLucca (.365) and 2B Rich Emery (.098) each collected two hits and drove in a run... DeLucca now has driven in 19 runs in the playoffs... the IPA record is 23... four more and he will tie Southport's Barney Lewis for the playoff mark... Miley has 16 RBIs now.
