I had forgotten about this feature and was pleasantly surprised to find it again. I guess I had boxed it in my mind as importing team strategies from files which you had previously exported. You can do that of course, but it's more than that, as I re-discovered.
I don't like coaching in this game. Frankly, I find the feature to be boring and tedious, especially recruiting personnel.
But if I turn coaching off, then I am faced with a Team Strategy of down the middle settings. When I start tinkering with that, it becomes a bit mind-boggling to pick settings and apply them to four different game times and nine different score situations. Sure, I know you can copy strategy settings to all game times and score situations but that seems like dumbing it down.
So, I found something better which allows me to leave coaching off but introduces some variability in Team Strategy, which I can "accept" and "blame" on somebody or something else. If I don't like how things are going, I can always change horses and without the sorting for LEGENDARY this and that coach rating, followed by "negotiations" with faceless virtual folks.
What I had forgotten was that when you select "Import Strategy From File," there are a bunch of fictional and historical strategy files already in the /strategy_profiles folder. Moreover, there are text files in there which provide summaries of fictional and historical managers, not by strategy setting of course, but descriptive like "Flynn sees the value of having a pitcher who will take advantage of lefty/righty matchups. Wants his pitchers to have stamina and will go with them as far as he can."
So you can "interview" these managers and choose the strategy profile of one that sounds like the style of play which you prefer. What a cool feature and one which completely meets my needs!
