Second Very Long 1-0 Match Within Two Days.
Wednesday saw the second extremely long Baseball League match, both in the Third Division, in which a scoreless draw went into many extra innings, with the result being identical one run to nil victories for the home sides.
On Wednesday, Lincoln City hosted Ashington in a mid-table match that proceeded into the bottom of the 16th innings, when after two quick outs made, Willis, Debenham and Kyle strung together consecutive singles, the last scoring Willis for the victory. Yesterday, Doncaster received Wigan Borough at Low Pasture for an important match for the home club, as they are fighting for promotion back to a higher tier for next season. In this match, pitchers Burrows and Smith traded volleys for ten innings, before the former yielded to Johnson, who continued throwing blanks at Green Linnets, while Downey relieved Smith for the 13th and successfully turned away Rovers until the bottom of the fifteenth. In that frame, Richards led off with a single and was bunted to the second base by Reynolds. Richards scored when Johnson won the game for himself by hitting a little roller in front of the home plate, but which catcher Radcliffe threw past his first base man to secure the victory for Doncaster.
Rovers are now level with Wolverhampton Wanderers four lengths out of the top spot, now held by Liverpool.
