Eddie Leon 1968
Here is one of The Great White Whales of color baseball photography, popping up out of nowhere in a collection I just obtained:
Eddie Leon, with the Yankees - for whom he played exactly one half-inning as a defensive replacement at shortstop on May 4, 1975. He was released the next day.
Fittingly, at first glance the image makes no sense. Leon is shown at Shea Stadium (the Yankees' home 1974-75) but is wearing a road jersey. At first I thought this might have been shot the day of the annual "Mayor's Trophy" exhibition game the Yankees and Mets played, but the 1975 edition came ten days after Leon had been released.
I'm now guessing this was from a workout in New York before the season began on the road. In any event, Eddie Leon in color:
