Charlie Neal

A player named Charlie Neal is shown in the uniform of the Cincinnati Clowns circa 1946. The Charlie Neal who became a Los Angeles Dodger would have only been 15 years old at this time, and I don't believe this could have been he. That major leaguer Charlie Neal supposedly made his Negro Leagues debut in 1955 with the Atlanta Black Crackers.

Because I've not been able to find any Charles or Charlie Neal listed in the Negro Baseball Registers or Encyclopedias as being with the Cincinnati Clowns, I'm wondering if the player in this photograph was mislabelled and was instead Ray Neil, who was with the Cincinnati Clowns in 1943. I can't verify that to be the case, but suggest that the current identification be used with caution. Henry Merchant was in the same photo with this "Charlie Neal," and Henry was with the 1943 Cincinnati Clowns.
