I looked up Jim French's record and for a .196 lifetime hitter he struck out only 78 times, which is surprisingly low. He must have hit a lot of weak ground balls to infielders for easy outs or hit some hard liners right at fielders. He also drove in 51 runs in 607 career at bats, which considering his limited playing time is not terrible. French fell below The Mendoza Line often, failing to hit .200 or more four times in his seven MLB seasons of 1965 to 1971 - all with the expansion Washington Senators (present day Texas Rangers)..
