Wolf, you're right. Stats only is the way to go but you really have to be into the game and a purist to be able to eliminate the corner-cutting comfort that ratings give. That, and you need the appropriate amount of time to devote to it.
But stats only is the ideal for players to strive for, no question. I envy your achievement.
