George "Sparky' Anderson, a future hall Of Fame Manager" was known for his brains and baseball smarts even as a journeyman minor leaguer
as this Dell's 1959 Baseball Stars magazine article attests. He's pictured here with the AAA 1958 Montreal Royals.
He did get his only shot at the major leagues that coming season after he was traded by the LA Dodgers to the Phillies.
He set an unusual record for the '59 Phils, which still stands. He played in more games than anyone in baseball history for a one season career.
Sparky played in 152 of the Phillies' scheduled 154 games that year in his only time in the majors as a player.
